    During the early 20th century, American Congregationalism experienced some fairly dramatic reorganization. When the National Council of Congregational Churches and the General Convention of the Christian Church merged in , their respective annual publications — the Congregational Year-Book and the Christian Annual — also merged to form. The editors of the Norwegian Book Clubs, with the Norwegian Nobel Institute, polled a panel of authors from 54 countries on what they considered the “best and most central works in world literature.” Among the authors polled were Milan Kundera, Doris Lessing, Seamus Heaney, Salman Rushdie.
